I have been playing golf for over 10 years, and played competitively at the collegiate level. You would think at that level that the game is a lot different than it would be at the beginner, but really it is not. Do you know the main thing separating the best players in the world from struggling new golfers? It is not equipment, fitness, or anything like that. It is simply golf swing fundamentals. Here I am going to share with you 3 golf swing tips for beginners, so follow these tips and you should be well on your way to hitting better golf shots and shooting lower scores.
1. The first thing that you must realize is how important your grip and stance are to your golf success. Most golfers of all levels overlook this, and this is one of the main reasons that most golfers do not reach their full potential. The key with the setup position is to grip the club with a light grip pressure, like you are holding a baby bird. In addition to this, you must check your shoulder and hip alignment, and make sure that all is well with that. Finally, make sure that you bend from your hips and your spine is straight. This will allow you to rotate around your axis, which is a key to producing consistent golf shots.
2. The next thing that you must do is focus on a target for each golf shot. Most golfers get over the ball without any specific intention of where they want to aim. Most just want to “hit the fairway” or “hit the green.” Of course that is the objective, but you must be more specific. For instance, aim for a specific side of the fairway. The more precise your aiming is, the more focused you will be. It also helps to focus on a target that is in the distance, as this gives you an objective target to aim toward.
3. The next thing you need is a solid golf swing. I know that is very general, but there are a few fundamentals that you must master, and several flaws that you must stay away from if you want to play your best golf. For instance, you do not want to grip the club tight, take the club too far to the inside, or have an “over the top golf swing.” Really golf swing tips for beginners can be summed up to the fact that you need a system that will show you a repeatable and actionable golf swing!
It is imperative for a beginner to avoid some critical golf swing flaws that could ruin your golf game. Avoid the top five swing flaws, and you will be fine.
